The Bucharest City Hall has initiated a tender for the purchase of 79 new trams, estimated to cost 1.4 billion lei. The deadline for bids is December 10, 2026. The trams will feature a fully low-floor design, wheelchair access, and air conditioning. This purchase is part of broader modernization projects for the city's public transport system. Previously, the city secured EU funds for additional public transport vehicles. Currently, the STB operates a fleet of 1,679 vehicles, with many trams being over 20 years old. Over the past decade, significant investments have been made in upgrading the fleet.
