Reactor 1 at Cernavodă has been reconnected to the grid, supplying its first 40 MW after a three-month hiatus. Romania resumed nuclear energy production on November 6. The reactor's reconnection follows a prolonged shutdown due to low Danube water levels. Currently, it is not operating at full capacity, with gradual increases expected until normal operation is achieved by November 7. At the time of reconnection, it contributed 0.74% to Romania's total electricity production. The unit can produce around 700 MW at full capacity, significantly increasing energy supply once fully operational. The shutdown began on July 28, 2026, due to insufficient cooling conditions caused by low river levels.
