Researchers have deciphered a 1,600-year-old Christian manuscript that may describe Jesus' death, descent into the underworld, and resurrection. The fragment, measuring about 5 by 7.5 centimeters, was found among unpublished papyri in Austria's National Library. Preliminary translations suggest references to someone who 'died' and a figure who 'descended' and 'rose again.' The manuscript is believed to date back to the 4th or 5th century, possibly written by an Egyptian religious leader. If accurate, it could provide insights into early Christian beliefs about Jesus' triumph over death. The study was published in the journal Tyche.
