A controversial situation has arisen in Sirețel, Iași, where local authorities attempted to convert fines of two councilors into community service hours, despite the councilors receiving allowances. The Court of Accounts identified this case among 29 irregularities during an audit, revealing that the councilors were misrepresented as having no income. The audit report also highlighted issues with the management of fines, including over 233,000 lei improperly removed from accounting records. Furthermore, the municipality lacked regulations for community service activities, and some fines were executed before court rulings. The Court of Accounts has called for the recovery of funds and accountability for the misinformation provided to the courts.
