Starting Saturday, residents of Craiova will have access to mountain spring water through the Isvarna 2 project, which took 13 years and cost over 500 million euros. Mayor Lia Olguța Vasilescu highlighted that this project was promised since 1960 but was only realized now. The initiative began in 2013 after discussions with the former director of the Water Company, leading to the decision to pursue the Isvarna aqueduct instead of smaller projects. The implementation faced numerous challenges, including bureaucratic delays and environmental permits. The project involved 7,000 expropriations and was impacted by rising material costs during the pandemic. The aqueduct spans 123 kilometers and was constructed with materials from four countries. The mayor expressed gratitude to all involved and emphasized the importance of European funds for the project's success, assuring that Craiova will have a stable water supply for the next century.
