A giant statue of Pope Leon XIV has been erected in Peru as part of his apostolic tour in South America. This visit marks his return to the continent where he served as a missionary for two decades. The statue, standing 14 meters tall and weighing three tons, was created by Peruvian sculptor Rafael Gutierrez and installed in Callao, reflecting the city's historical ties to the Pope. The apostolic journey, which began on November 6, 2026, is the longest of his papacy and follows a recent surgery for cancer. The Pope will visit Uruguay, Argentina, and conclude his tour in Peru.
