Authorities are seeking solutions to prevent the Cernavodă nuclear power plant from shutting down its reactors due to low Danube water levels. Energy Minister Dumitru Chișăliță has instructed Nuclearelectrica to identify measures to be implemented before next summer, should water levels drop again. The interventions will focus on short-term and long-term solutions to ensure reactor operation under challenging hydrological conditions. One proposed solution involves revising technical criteria for designing such facilities, particularly in the context of the Bala 2 hydrotechnical project. The aim is to minimize the risk of future shutdowns, as the plant faced significant production losses this summer due to insufficient cooling water. The reconnection of Unit 1 to the national grid began on November 6, following a three-month outage.
