In Timișoara, a pilot project has successfully transformed over 120 tons of biodegradable waste into biogas, generating electricity for three communes. The initiative involves collecting spoiled fruits and vegetables from nine local markets, which are then processed at a biogas station in Pișchia. This facility produces between 14 and 16 megawatt-hours of electricity daily, contributing to the national grid. The project aims to improve waste sorting at the source and assess its impact on local businesses. Challenges remain in ensuring waste is free from contaminants like plastics and metals, which affects processing efficiency. The results may lead to expanding the program to other areas of Timișoara.
