The shutdown of reactors at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant due to low Danube water levels has resulted in estimated losses of around one billion lei, equivalent to about 200 million euros, over the past three months. Prime Minister Luca Niculescu highlighted the financial impact during a visit to the plant, where he emphasized the importance of the Bala 2 project to improve water flow and ensure cooling for the reactors. The first unit was reconnected to the national grid after being offline for over three months, following controlled shutdowns due to insufficient water levels. The project aims to enhance Romania's energy security and support future reactor developments.
