British pharmaceutical group GSK and American company Moderna have reached an agreement to resolve legal disputes over alleged patent infringements related to COVID-19 and RSV vaccines. The agreement, finalized on October 28, ends lawsuits in the U.S. and Europe concerning Moderna's Spikevax and mNEXSPIKE vaccines, as well as the mResvia vaccine for RSV. Both companies have granted each other licenses for the use of infectious disease patents without associated payment obligations. GSK welcomed the agreement, emphasizing that it allows both companies to focus on developing new treatments and vaccines. The litigation began in 2024 when GSK accused Moderna of unauthorized use of lipid nanoparticle technology. GSK still has a similar lawsuit against Pfizer and BioNTech regarding their COVID-19 vaccine technology.
