Scientists have identified the oldest Martian rocks found on Earth, revealing insights into the early history of Mars. The altered crust indicates the presence of water on Mars 4.1 billion years ago. The unique pink meteorite, named Teghaza 001, differs chemically from previous Martian samples. It was discovered in 2022 and consists of eight fragments weighing a total of 798.5 grams. The meteorite provides a glimpse into Mars' early crust and mantle during a time when life was just beginning on Earth. Researchers aim to understand why Mars became arid while Earth remained habitable.
