DIICOT and police conducted raids targeting a group suspected of sexually exploiting around 30 young women in Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria. Known as the Burtea clan, the group is accused of organized crime, human trafficking, and pimping. Investigators executed 36 search warrants in Romania and 21 in Germany and Austria. The group allegedly recruited victims using the 'lover boy' method, leading them into prostitution through emotional manipulation and violence. Two police officers are also under investigation for allegedly aiding the traffickers. A joint investigation team has been established with German authorities to tackle cross-border crime. Reports suggest a well-known manele singer may be involved, but this has not been officially confirmed.
