Starting November 6, 2026, new traffic regulations for motorcycles and mopeds will be implemented in Romania. The Ministry of Internal Affairs states that these vehicles can use bus lanes under specific conditions set by road administrators. Additionally, new rules clarify overtaking regulations, allowing motorcycles and mopeds to pass vehicles without crossing lane markings. An exception permits them to overtake stopped vehicles at red lights if space allows and speed is under 20 km/h. Helmet regulations are reinforced, requiring approved helmets for both riders and passengers. A new safety space concept is introduced for intersections, and local authorities must create dedicated parking for motorcycles and mopeds in public areas.
