Spain, the world's largest olive oil producer, plans to withdraw 188,000 tons of olive oil from the market until fall 2024 to stabilize prices. This unprecedented measure aims to prevent further price drops due to high stock levels and a bountiful harvest. Starting November 2026, producers must store 12% of their monthly output, which cannot be sold until September 2027. The government intervenes as current stocks exceed the average of the last six seasons by over 20%. Meanwhile, Dcoop and Acesur are set to acquire Deoleo Holding, the largest branded olive oil producer, in a deal valued at 520 million euros, pending regulatory approval.
