Nearly 1,000 STB employees are set to be laid off by year-end, with notices possibly starting next week. The layoffs will target those suspected of taking false medical leave while working elsewhere, along with others based on absenteeism, disciplinary issues, occupational illnesses, and theft. The layoffs will affect all segments of STB, including tram drivers and controllers, as the company faces significant financial difficulties, including debts of approximately 1.72 billion lei. The Bucharest General Council approved the insolvency procedure for STB in July.
