Romania is set to sign a contract for individual weapon procurement worth over 800 million euros with Sig Sauer, pending successful tests in the US. The funding will be through SAFE, potentially in collaboration with Ukraine and/or Moldova. The project, initially managed by the Ministry of National Defense, is now under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Sig Sauer's proposal includes technology transfer for production in Romania. The procurement process faced challenges, including a contestation from Beretta, but an industrial cooperation agreement has been signed. The deadline for individual financing contracts was missed, but a joint procurement agreement could extend the signing deadline to 2027.
