SN Nuclearelectrica SA has initiated actions to restart Unit 1 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, with synchronization to the National Energy System expected on November 6, 2026. This follows over three months without nuclear energy production in Romania. The restart is a complex process that adheres to strict nuclear safety protocols. The operation is crucial for energy security and stability. Unit 1 will provide approximately 700 MW of capacity, while Unit 2 remains offline until water levels in the Danube rise. Nuclearelectrica is also preparing for the modernization of Unit 1, which will extend its operational life by 30 years, with planned downtime from 2027 to 2030. Construction preparations for Units 3 and 4 are set to begin in 2027.
