Italy is finalizing a new military aid package for Ukraine, the first of this year, amid rising tensions within the governing coalition regarding arms deliveries. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto emphasized the importance of continuing support for Kyiv, despite opposition from the League party. The package, which is the 13th since the Russian invasion, is set for government approval after Crosetto briefs the parliamentary intelligence committee. While the contents remain classified, it may include Aster interceptor missiles for the Franco-Italian SAMP/T air defense system. The Italian government is authorized to deliver this aid until December 31, but a new decree will be needed for continued support until 2027, posing a potential challenge for the coalition if opposition persists.
