Traian Băsescu criticizes Romania's recent lack of a coherent policy towards the USA, labeling it as a foolish approach. He opposes the idea of Romania paying for the presence of American troops, calling it a bad Polish idea. Băsescu emphasizes that military costs should be shared according to NATO rules and recalls the mutual contributions made for the Deveselu base. He believes Romania should strengthen ties with the US Congress rather than relying solely on presidential meetings. Băsescu also dismisses the notion of aligning with the Democrats, asserting that the partnership with the US transcends party lines.
