Two judges from the Pitești Court of Appeal were sanctioned by the CSM for increasing Daniel Chițoiu's sentence and sending him to prison. The judges faced disciplinary actions for acting in bad faith during the trial. Chițoiu was convicted for culpable homicide after a fatal accident in 2019. Initially sentenced to three years suspended, his sentence was increased to four years in prison on appeal. The judges cited the severity of the accident and Chițoiu's lack of remorse as reasons for the harsher sentence. The CSM found that the judges improperly considered the behavior of Chițoiu's lawyers in their decision, violating fundamental legal principles. Chițoiu's appeal was rejected by the High Court, and a dissenting opinion called for a retrial due to unclear factors affecting the driver's attention.
