Two judges from the Pitești Court of Appeal were sanctioned by the CSM for increasing Daniel Chițoiu's sentence and sending him to prison. Judge Ioan Fundătureanu was demoted, while Judge Costin Andrei Stancu had his salary reduced. The decision was based on their handling of the case, which involved a fatal accident caused by Chițoiu. However, the CSM found that they improperly considered the behavior of Chițoiu's lawyers in determining the sentence, violating legal principles. Chițoiu's appeal against his conviction was rejected by the ICCJ, but a dissenting opinion called for a retrial due to unclear factors affecting the driver's attention.
