In late 2024, Romanian authorities dismantled a sabotage operation targeting strategic sites in Ilfov County. Colombian citizen Murillo Diosa Luis Alfonso was sentenced to six years in prison for attempted diversion acts. He was allegedly coordinated by a Cuban national residing in Russia, who is also under investigation for instigating sabotage. The Romanian court approved a preventive arrest for the Cuban suspect, who is linked to international investigations by U.S. and other European authorities for similar activities. The operation was thwarted by police intervention before it could be completed.
