Mihai Ghigiu, the new Minister of Investments and European Projects, revealed Romania's current status regarding European funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Initially allocated 29.2 billion euros, Romania's total has been reduced to 20.1 billion euros after renegotiations. So far, 13.27 billion euros have been attracted, with 6.4 billion euros still expected through two payment requests. However, only 3 billion euros are secured based on current milestones, while 3.4 billion euros are at risk of suspension. Estimates suggest Romania may recover 1 billion euros from the suspended amount, but 2.4 billion euros could be lost due to unmet targets. Key commitments include public sector salary legislation and decarbonization. Romania has until March 2027 to provide additional documentation to potentially unlock some funds.
