The European Commission has launched a €525 million platform to support the emergence of new European chip design companies. This initiative aims to provide startups and SMEs with access to design tools, technologies, production capabilities, and funding for product development. The platform, eurocdp.eu, was introduced by Henna Virkkunen, focusing on increasing the number of European firms in the chip design sector, which currently contributes less than 1% of global revenues. Companies can access software tools, consulting services, and intellectual property components. Grants of up to €100,000 are available for early-stage startups, while more advanced companies can apply for up to €16 million. The initiative is part of the European Chips Act, aimed at strengthening the semiconductor industry and reducing dependency on external suppliers.
