Amazon Web Services (AWS) successfully conducted its first public test of the European Sovereign Cloud, demonstrating its ability to operate independently from non-EU infrastructure. The test, held on October 24, involved shutting down two global systems without disrupting customer activities or data access. AWS confirmed that the European cloud infrastructure can function solely with its own hardware and software, managed by EU-resident employees. The exercise showed that client workloads remained uninterrupted, and services in other AWS regions were unaffected. This test is significant for regulated industries and public sector organizations, enhancing confidence in sovereign cloud services. AWS aims to operate the European Sovereign Cloud exclusively by EU citizens in the future.
