A Spanish submarine successfully sank the retired patrol vessel Infanta Elena with a single torpedo during a military exercise in the Atlantic. This operation was part of the SINKEX 26 exercise, aimed at testing the combat capabilities of the Isaac Peral submarine, the first of the new S-80 class. The Infanta Elena was used as a target, and the exercise demonstrated the submarine's attack capabilities under real conditions. Environmental protection measures were implemented prior to the sinking, including the removal of pollutants from the vessel. The Isaac Peral submarine is set to replace the aging S-70 fleet of the Spanish Navy, despite facing initial construction challenges.
