Over 1.3 million TV devices were infected with malware before purchase, allegedly by Chinese manufacturer Videostrong Technology. Google claims the malware, XCPE, was embedded in the devices' software, allowing remote control without user consent. This malware enabled illegal activities, including generating false ad views and installing additional harmful programs. Google has taken steps to block the infrastructure used by the attackers and has ceased collaboration with Videostrong. Users are advised to disconnect affected devices from the internet and seek safe software versions or replacements.
