Nine active police officers and a former officer in Serbia have been arrested for excessive use of force against detainees during anti-corruption protests in 2025. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the suspects tortured and intimidated individuals held in a government garage in Belgrade. They allegedly inflicted severe pain and suffering to extract information and punish the detainees illegally. The protests, sparked by a tragedy in Novi Sad, ultimately led to the ousting of the ruling Progressive Party in October 2025, with early parliamentary elections won by the Student List.
