Serbian authorities have detained nine active police officers and a former officer for excessive use of force during anti-corruption protests in Belgrade in 2025. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the suspects allegedly tortured and intimidated detainees in a government garage. They are accused of causing severe pain and suffering to many individuals to extract information and punish them illegally. The protests, sparked by a tragedy in Novi Sad, ultimately led to the ousting of the ruling Progressive Party in October, with early parliamentary elections won by the Student List.
