Călin Georgescu, former presidential candidate, is seeking to replace his preventive arrest with house arrest or judicial control at the Bucharest Tribunal. He has been in preventive custody since September 29, accused of defrauding a businessman of 1.1 million euros. Despite multiple attempts for release, the Bucharest Court of Appeal has consistently overturned favorable decisions. The investigation began after businessman Răzvan Leu filed a complaint regarding a fraudulent investment scheme involving a supposed loan of 6 million euros. Leu was misled into paying a guarantee of 1 million euros, which was partially intended for Georgescu's presidential campaign. The loan was never granted, and Leu has not recovered his funds. The Tribunal has ruled in favor of Georgescu three times, but the Court of Appeal has upheld his preventive detention each time, allowing the investigation to proceed.
