A Spanish official has resigned following a tragic train accident in Toledo that resulted in 69 fatalities. This marks the second resignation of a Spanish official within 24 hours. Luis Pedro Marco de la Peña, president of Adif, submitted his resignation to the new transport minister, Carlos Cuerpo, after the incident. Cuerpo met with key officials, including the president of Renfe, Álvaro Fernández Heredia. Just a day prior, a government official denied plans to dismiss Marco de la Peña. Adif oversees Spain's railway infrastructure and traffic control. The resignations come after a collision of high-speed trains in Toledo, which is the second deadly train incident in Spain this year, following a January derailment that killed at least 45 people.
