Six defendants, including two legal entities and four individuals, have been indicted in connection with a gas explosion in Bucharest's Rahova neighborhood in October 2025. Prosecutors allege that employees of the gas distribution operator and representatives of an authorized firm failed to take necessary measures to identify and isolate a gas leak despite multiple reports. The explosion resulted in four fatalities and eight injuries. Investigators found that defects in underground electrical cables caused a gas leak, leading to an explosive mixture that ignited the following day. The gas distribution operator had received several warnings about the gas smell but did not mobilize adequate resources for resolution. The case includes civil claims from 297 individuals and entities, with asset seizures totaling over 68 million euros to secure potential damages. The investigation involved extensive witness hearings and expert analyses, and the case has been forwarded to the court for trial.
