Democrat Abdul El-Sayed has won the Senate seat in Michigan, becoming the first Muslim senator in U.S. history. His victory strengthens the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. El-Sayed's campaign faced challenges, particularly after a close primary win against Haley Stevens. Despite tensions within the party, he garnered support from various voter groups. He will take over the seat from retiring senator Gary Peters, maintaining Democratic control in a key state.
