Eurozone inflation reached its highest level in three years in October, driven mainly by rising energy costs. The annual inflation rate for the 21 euro-using countries rose to 4%, up from 3.8% in September, according to preliminary data from Eurostat. Energy prices saw the largest annual increase at 20.8%, while service inflation slightly increased to 3.3%. Food and beverage prices rose by 1.6% year-on-year. Core inflation remained stable at 2.5%. The European Central Bank has raised interest rates twice this year to combat inflation, and further increases may occur in December. Economists warn that high diesel and natural gas prices could lead to additional price hikes in the coming months.
