Approximately 29% of invoices issued by Romanian companies are paid late or remain uncollected, exceeding the European average of 24%. The study highlights that 53% of sales between companies in Romania are conducted through commercial credit, which is higher than the Central and Eastern European average of 46%. Payment delays impact company liquidity and can create a domino effect in the economy, leading firms to postpone payments to suppliers or seek additional financing. This issue is not unique to Romania, as 62% of European companies also face payment delays due to uncollected invoices. The EU Payment Observatory estimates that eliminating payment delays could generate over 100 billion euros annually in additional cash flow for micro-enterprises and SMEs across Europe.
