Verdict details
Confidence: 73%
Evidence quality: PUTERNICĂ
**What was analyzed:** The claim that Romania became the largest exporter of wheat in the European Union in 2024. **What sources confirm:** Official data from the European Commission (reported by Reuters, Agerpres, Digi24, Economica.net) shows that in the 2024/2025 marketing season, Romania ranked first in the EU for soft wheat exports to third countries, surpassing France and Germany. **Limitations:** Agricultural statistics are primarily measured over marketing seasons (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025) and focus on soft wheat, however, Romania's leading position during this period is clearly confirmed. **Conclusion:** The claim is consistent with official data and agricultural market reports. Recommended next steps
- Consult detailed Eurostat statistics and the dashboard of the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) of the European Commission.
- Compare with a primary source (document/report) for the key figure/statement.
- Check the date and context: whether the claim was valid only for a specific period or for a region.
Analysis limitations
- The data specifically refers to soft wheat and is reported over marketing seasons (2024/2025), not strictly on a calendar year basis.
- Publication of revised aggregated Eurostat data showing that another member state surpassed Romania in total wheat exports in 2024.
