Romania currently relies on high-priced electricity imports, which may lead to a 10-15% increase in consumer bills if the situation persists. Cristian Bușoi from the Ministry of Energy highlighted that current market prices are significantly higher than bilateral contract prices. He noted that while short-term impacts on renegotiated contracts may be minimal, prolonged crises could result in more substantial price hikes. Additionally, Romania has reserve production capacities, such as the Rovinari 4 unit, which is not economically viable to operate at present due to high costs. Bușoi emphasized the careful management of hydro resources to mitigate imports.
