Hungary's Paks nuclear power plant, which supplies nearly half of the country's electricity, may shut down due to low Danube water levels. Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced that the plant is already operating at a quarter of its capacity and could be completely offline for the first time in 44 years. The government plans to implement voluntary energy consumption reductions and may enforce mandatory cuts for large consumers. Additionally, freight train services will be suspended to alleviate energy demand, and public sector employees will work from home. Romania faces similar challenges, with its Cernavodă plant also affected by low water levels.
