Prosecco Day is celebrated annually on August 13 since 2016 to promote the Italian wine. Despite its ancient Roman roots, it gained global popularity in the 21st century. The wine, with a low alcohol content of 12%, was little known outside Italy until recently. Its history dates back to Roman times when it was praised as Pucino. The modern production method involves fermentation in large steel tanks, preserving flavors and reducing costs. Prosecco is primarily produced in Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with protected areas like Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. The wine must contain at least 85% Glera grapes, which were previously known as Prosecco until a 2009 EU decision changed the name. Glera is now cultivated in other regions, but only Italian farmers can market it as Prosecco.
