His defense is seeking to replace his preventive arrest with house arrest or judicial control. Georgescu is accused of fraud and forming an organized criminal group, with damages amounting to 1.1 million euros. The case stems from a complaint by businessman Răzvan Leu, who claims he lost money after being promised external financing. Georgescu was arrested for 30 days on September 29, amid protests from supporters.
