The Danish film "Woman Unknown," directed by May el-Toukhy, won the Golden Lion at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. El-Toukhy is the only female director in the main competition this year, which featured 21 films. The film explores the theme of women's invisibility, telling the story of Marie, a maid planning an extravagant wedding party that is threatened by a secret from her past. The film is set shortly after World War II in Denmark. Last year's Golden Lion went to Jim Jarmusch's "Father Mother Sister Brother." The jury was chaired by Maggie Gyllenhaal and included various international filmmakers.
