In the first seven months of 2026, vacation voucher reimbursements to affiliated tourist units dropped by 53.56% compared to the previous year, totaling 404.55 million lei. The value of vouchers purchased and reimbursed by employers also decreased by 9.67% to 417.97 million lei. Compared to 2024, the decline is even more significant, with reimbursements falling to just over a third of previous levels. Industry representatives express concern over the diminishing value of vouchers, emphasizing their importance for sustaining jobs and tourism in Romania. They advocate for a more effective vacation voucher system, particularly for private sector employees, highlighting its recognized international effectiveness.
