The Senate has approved a proposal to extend the residency requirement for voting in local elections from six months to over a year. This change means that citizens must establish their residence for more than a year before the elections to register in the electoral roll. Those who move to a new locality less than a year before the elections will only be able to vote in their original domicile. The proposal, despite receiving a rejection report from specialized committees, will be debated in the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making body.
