Researchers have developed light-activated experimental drugs that restore some visual functions in blind animals. These molecules, termed 'molecular prosthetics', help remaining retinal cells respond to light. The method, known as photopharmacology, allows for drug administration via eye drops. While effective, these treatments do not cure the underlying causes of vision loss. Further studies are needed to ensure safety and enhance the duration of effects.
