Vor adera la UE numai ţările care îi vor putea consolida securitatea, afirmă comisarul european pentru extindere
European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, emphasized that the EU will only integrate new member states that enhance its security. At a meeting of EU foreign ministers, she stated that security is increasingly crucial in the enlargement process. Kos highlighted the importance of strategic alignment with candidates, particularly regarding sanctions and energy initiatives, referencing Serbia's refusal to join EU sanctions against Russia. She stressed the need for respect for the rule of law and European values, especially in the Western Balkans, where nationalist tendencies are resurfacing. Kos also criticized attempts to revise the Special Chambers for Kosovo, asserting that such changes during ongoing judicial processes violate fundamental obligations to the EU.
