Volvo has begun test production at its new electric vehicle factory near Košice, Slovakia, with an investment of around €1.2 billion. The plant aims to produce up to 250,000 vehicles annually and create 3,300 jobs. Testing has expanded to the final assembly line, ensuring quality before mass production starts in late 2026 or early 2027. Currently, the factory employs over 1,000 workers, mostly Slovak, with plans to hire an additional 300 by 2026. The project is expected to boost local demand for housing and services, supported by new public transport links. The factory will exclusively produce electric vehicles, including models for Polestar, and is part of a broader strategy by Geely Holding to expand in Central Europe's automotive sector.
