Volkswagen transformă fabrica din Osnabrück pentru producția destinată industriei de apărare, în premieră • Newsweek România
Volkswagen has reached a preliminary agreement to transform its Osnabrück plant into a defense production facility, marking a first for the company's restructuring efforts. The factory will be sold to Israeli firm Aurelius Capital and the Lower Saxony state, potentially preserving around 1,400 of the existing 1,800 jobs. Car production at the site is set to cease by 2027. This move follows Volkswagen's broader restructuring plan aimed at improving margins amid weak demand and increasing competition. The plant may produce components for air defense systems in collaboration with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Volkswagen is exploring alternative uses for its factories facing closure due to high costs and low demand.
