Volkswagen has initiated a recall for nearly 72,700 electric vehicles due to defective batteries, affecting around 10,000 in Germany. The recall targets models from the ID range, including ID.3, ID.4, ID.7, and ID.Buzz, produced between 2022 and 2025. Internal quality checks revealed that some battery cells did not meet standards due to a manufacturing defect from suppliers, potentially leading to overheating and fire risks. Affected customers will receive written notifications, and Volkswagen is temporarily limiting battery charging to 80% until inspections are completed. This follows a previous recall of over 90,000 vehicles earlier this year for similar battery issues.
