The Călinești ecoduct, the widest bridge in Romania, is being built over the Olt River to facilitate wildlife movement and enhance safety for both animals and humans. Scheduled for completion next year, it will measure 300 meters in length and 100 meters in width. This unique structure aims to restore natural corridors in the Southern Carpathians, addressing the barrier effect of heavy traffic on DN7. The project, part of the Sibiu-Pitești highway, is complex and involves significant engineering challenges, including the construction of multiple bridges and the longest tunnel in the Carpathians. The ecoduct will utilize substantial amounts of concrete and metal, emphasizing the need for sustainable infrastructure alongside transportation development.
