Prosecutors and police conducted 79 searches in Bucharest and surrounding counties related to an organized crime group involved in cigarette smuggling. The group, formed by Romanian and Moldovan citizens, has been operating since November 2025, trafficking cigarettes from Moldova and Ukraine into Romania. The investigation revealed that the group expanded to 31 members, each with specific roles in the smuggling operation. They transported approximately 6 million cigarettes that were not registered in Romania's tax system. The action was supported by various police and gendarmerie units.
